An empty ballot.
A revolution that never happened.
At the heart of the UNWRITTEN installation, first created in 2021, lies the conflict between internal and external reality: from four speakers, we hear the writing of love letters, the drafting of pamphlets, drawing, and the revealing of one's innermost self, but all we see is blank paper. Creativity cycles through the audio tapes: creation is followed by destruction – tearing, crumpling, and even burning paper, yet we still see only blank paper. The viewer of the piece does not know what is being destroyed on the tapes, nor who is doing the destroying.
The texts on the audio tapes are real people's confessions of unmade revolutions, which they left in the urn of Brigitta Muntendorf and Michael Höpfner's installation "Memorial of Rebellion" in the spring and summer of 2021.
The third version of the piece, presented at the cottage, where writer Aleksis Kivi died, adds a new layer to its interpretation. The blank papers on the floor of the death cottage challenge us to consider whose history we are telling, whose stories we are hearing, and what if…

Vuonna 2021 ensimmäisen kerran rakennetun UNWRITTEN -installaation ytimessä on ristiriita sisäisen ja ulkoisen todellisuuden kesken: kuulemme neljästä kaiuttimesta rakkauskirjeiden kirjoittamista, paflettien laatimista, piirtämistä, oman sisimmän paljastamista, mutta emme näe kuin tyhjän paperin. Luovuus kiertää ääninauhoilla sykleissä: tekemistä seuraa tuhoaminen – paperin repiminen, puristaminen ja jopa polttaminen, emmekä vieläkään näe muuta kuin tyhjän paperin. Teoksen kokija ei tiedä, mitä ääninauhalla tuhotaan, eikä sitä, kuka tuhoaa.
Ääninauhojen tekstit ovat aitojen ihmisten tunnustamia tekemättömiä vallankumouksia, joita he ovat jättäneet Brigitta Muntendorfin ja Michael Höpfnerin installaation "Memorial of Rebellion" uurnaan keväällä ja kesällä 2021.
